Stephan “Steve” D. Hwang is a senior associate attorney who brings a diligent and thoughtful approach to the practice of law. Sometimes the obvious approach is a distraction for a more effective nuanced one, but sometimes it is the best way to go. Every case has its challenges and must be looked at both fundamentally and creatively. Discernment and humility before the matter are the keys to Steve’s processes.
Practice areas include commercial and business litigation and adversary proceedings in probate, guardianship, and bankruptcy. Steve represents both plaintiffs and defendants and handles contested matters across North Texas and the federal districts of Texas both at the trial and appellate levels.
He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Eastern, Southern, and Western Districts of Texas and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Northern, Eastern, and Southern Districts.
Steve earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University in 2002 and was admitted to the Texas State Bar that same year. He also holds a Master of Theology in New Testament studies, with a concentration in Greek, from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Washington University in St. Louis. At SMU he served on the Computer Law Review & Technology Journal, competed on the SMU Negotiation Team, and worked as an upper-class tutor. He had served as a youth pastor at the Binnerri Presbyterian Church during his seminary years and was a youth coach at Prestonwood Sports Organization for soccer and baseball. He is currently an active member of Bent Tree Bible Fellowship, where he serves on the Worship and Arts team rotating on keyboard and bass for Sunday morning services. He and his wife, Sue, have four children. The family is not from Lake Wobegon, but the women are strong, the men good-looking, and the children above average.
